How black wallpaper can save your Android battery life?

Black wallpaper save your Android battery life.

In the smartphone market, most are either AMOLED or LCD, but many people do not know that the screen background color you choose – yes, wallpaper – can actually make a difference in your life smartphone battery. Pure paper black or a dark colored background in general can save you a significant amount of battery life.

Black wallpaper can actually help your battery last longer.

First, we need a quick bit of display technology of information. I will not go into too much detail, but if you want to know more (and which is the best for this) then you can see our explanation of the major difference between Retina , AMOLED and LCD displays. If you just want the black background, skip to the bottom of the article.

Display Technology explained: LCD

LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display and it is the same type of technology you find in your televisions, monitors, and so on. As its name suggests, liquid crystal displays are actually crystals, and as such, they emit light on their own but transmit light from a light source behind them.

This means that even if you are looking to black on your smartphone or tablet screen, it is actually black illuminated from behind. Therefore, LCDs are not really not display “true” black. The Nexus 5 has an LCD screen, as does the G3 LG and Xperia Z3.

LCDs are also very energy than each pixel has to be illuminated all the time.

Both the Xperia Z3 (left) and LG G3 (right) have CD screens.

Display Technology explained: AMOLED and OLED

AMOLED stands for Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode and it is also used for television screens, but especially for smartphones. OLED displays are similar, but do not use an active matrix.

Samsung displays, for example, are generally AMOLED: the S5 Galaxy and Galaxy Note 4 all use an AMOLED display. The LG G Flex 2 uses a plastic OLED and Google Nexus 6 also uses an AMOLED screen.

As its name suggests, the screen is composed of organic matter that actually produces light when current is passed through it – electroluminescence. Because AMOLED displays can be lit pixel by pixel as the Moto X, black is “true” black because there is no backlight.

It also means AMOLED displays are easier on your battery because each pixel is not always enlightened.

Battery life: AMOLED vs LCD

AMOLED

You can probably see where this is going: if you have an AMOLED display, then you can actually save battery life by using black wallpaper, or more generally wallpapers and darker themes.

XDA Developers have done a little experiment and understand that you can save about 6% battery life / hour at 20% brightness using a black wallpaper on an AMOLED screen, and about 8% / hour full brightness.

These results are based on a screen always on, but the basic theory is solid, although the numbers are not exactly set in stone. Another tester using a different method came with an overall gain of any day of 18%.

LCD

What about battery saving LCD background, I hear you ask? Sorry, LCDs rely on backlighting, so there is nothing you can do to save battery there.

The only thing you can do is set the parameters for your device battery saver mode and try not to turn your screen all the time. Keep your screen brightness as low as possible and your nice display delay and shorter.

The good news is that you can have the brightest imaginable themes and colorful wallpaper and it will not make a difference to your battery. Just think that when you look at the dark screen of AMOLED owners clinging to life in the extended battery (just do not stray too far from a charger while you praise).

It may not sound exciting, but it looks cool. And it need not be pure black, just dark.

Other living tips Battery for AMOLED displays

There are other things AMOLED owners can do to maximize the life of the battery too, as applications create as many themes to be as dark as possible.

If you can change the appearance of a bunch of applications that you frequently use (or download a different application that does the same thing, but that does not allow the appearance customization), you can save even more battery life .

After all, we spend all day on our home screens, but more time in applications. You can also set your text preferences and email for a black background and white text, depending on your device and selected applications.

The best way to find yourself is to fully charge your device as is and wait until it is almost completely dead and watch how your battery has been used by the display. Just go into your Settings menu and look under Device Settings for the battery.

Take note of the part of the screen used, and then, while charging your phone, switch to a black background and repeat the cycle to see the difference.

You can also adjust the brightness of the screen to change the appearance of the application and mode of economic use of the battery.

Of course, your battery is used by more than just the display, so that the results depend on your telephone usage patterns, processor and other variables, but you will still save something deserves to be saved.
